The “Binnie & Dutch Award”, presented annually to an individual making significant contributions to Track & Field in Nebraska, was established to recognize two outstanding coaches. Wayne “Binnie” Binfield was a long time coach at Scottsbluff High School. Binnie coached for 42 years with stints at Crawford, Alliance and finally Scottsbluff. W.L. “Dutch” Zorn coached at Gothenburg for 27 years. In 1971, his final year of coaching, Zorn’s teams won 10 championships and the State title in Kearney. He was President of the NCA and as a tribute to Dutch and his wife, the Gothenburg community sent them to the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
